The Homer Central School District will move to remote learning today because of staff absences because of illness, the district has announced.
"Due to staffing shortages in our transportation department, we came dangerously close to not being able to hold school today (Monday)," Superintendent Tom Turck said on the district's web site.
Students from grades 3 to 12 were instructed to bring them Chromebooks home each night for access to instructional material via Google Classroom.
Younger students will have packets of work for at-home learning.
All practices for all activities will be canceled, as well as modified sports. Concerts, junior varsity and varsity games, as well as other activities will continue.
Materials for grades 6 to 12 will be available at 10 a.m. Materials for grades 3 to 5 will be available at 11 a.m.
Phillips Free Library announced it will be open noon to 7 p.m. for students who need a place with internet access to do their remote learning.
