Nadyne Wood Harris, beloved wife of Jaffrey C. Harris, died March 7th, 2025 at Guthrie Cortland Hospicecare surrounded by her family.
Nadyne was born June 27, 1932 in Cortland, New York, of her parents, Clair E. and Vera F. Wood. She and Jaffrey were married May 23, 1953 in the North Presbyterian Church of Cortland, the beginning of a 71-year commitment of love and family.
Nadyne spent much of her life working and raising children. She was a 50-year member of the Homer Congregational Church and a life member of the Cortland County Historical Society. She also found time to volunteer and was a blood donor, earning herself a ten-gallon donor distinction.
Nadyne retired from the Cortland Water Board in 1990 after 30 years of service. After retirement, she and Jaffrey drove cross-country three times, taking different routes and seeing a great deal of this beautiful country. They took countless short trips throughout the Northeast and into Canada. They had the pleasure of watching their oldest grandson perform with the Marine Corps Band, and later with the University of Redlands Chapel Singers at Carnegie Hall. Their travel included a driving tour of France with friends and a tour of England and Scotland. Perhaps Nadyne’s favorite trip was a week spent at a working ranch in Montana. Nadyne had a special fondness for “The Old West.”
Nadyne loved nothing more than family dinners and reunions, especially if the day ended at a card table. She loved pitch and bridge, and made many friends pursuing these interests.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Dale and his wife Barbara, her sister Alice and her husband, Charles A. Kniffen.
Nadyne is survived by her husband of 71 years, Jaffrey C. Harris, and their five children; Stacie (Miguel) Burgos, and their children: Micheil (Christina) Burgos, and their son, Michael; Christopher, and Lee Burgos; Dale R. Harris, Jeannette (Aldo Bernobich) Harris, and her daughter, Quentin Bartholomew; Andrew (Kimberly) Harris and their children: David (Darby) Harris and son Rowan, Jasminique, Vincent, and Mary (Christopher) Delage; Peter (Deborah) Harris and their daughter, Gabrielle (Corey) White and their children: Kennith Higgins, Kiera and Serenity White.
The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to the staff of Misty Glen at Guthrie Cortland. Their dedication, support, and genuine care of Nadyne was evident every day and they made a difficult time much easier. Thank you so much.
There are no calling hours or services. An interment for Nadyne will be held at the convenience of the family and is planned for May 23, 2025 at Glenwood Cemetery in Homer.
Donations in Nadyne’s name can be sent to Guthrie Memorial Fund, the Cortland County Historical Society, the Homer Congregational Church or any other of choice.
