Nobody was injured in a fire on River Street in Cortland that the City of Cortland Fire Department responded to at 7:01 p.m. Sunday.
Crews found “moderate smoke” coming from a single-family residence. The fire was contained to the kitchen and extinguished within 10 minutes of arrival.
There was “minimal damage” to the overall structure of the house. The entire living area sustained “heavy” smoke damage and the electrical and gas systems were damaged, requiring the utility services to the building to be discontinued.
The fire was determined to have been accidental and originated from a stove in the kitchen.
The Cortland Fire Department was assisted by the City of Cortland Police Department, National Grid, NYSEG and the Cortland County E9-1-1 Communication Center.
