Colorscape arts festival accepting scholarship applications
High school students in Cortland County can now apply for the 2024 Francis K. Wilcox Emerging Young Artist Scholarship, and applicants have chance to sell their work alongside professional artists at the Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival on Sept. 7 and 8 in Norwich.
“This is an opportunity for high school art students to experience the professional art world,” festival Executive Director Michele Ericksen said in a release.
The Francis K. Wilcox Emerging Young Artist Program gives two high school artists $350 for college and an experience at a juried arts event.
Recipients will receive their money at a breakfast the Sunday of Colorscape, said Colorscape Visual Arts Coordinator Peggy Finnegan. Winners also get a gift certificate for Golden Artist Colors Products and a chance to display and sell their work in a booth Colorscape provides.
Eligible students must be a junior or graduating senior and live or attend school in Chenango or an adjacent county. This includes public, private, parochial and home-schooled students living in Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Madison or Otsego counties.
Only digital images will be accepted for review. Jury decisions will be based on creativity, workmanship, continuity of work, and a brief written biography. Applications are available on Colorscape’s website, colorscape.co. Applications are due June 14. — Jack Lakowsky
