A blue BMW convertible tried to flee a traffic stop Wednesday on Interstate 81, speeding through Cortland until police stopped the car going the wrong way on Main Street.

State and Cortland police took a man into custody about 2:30 p.m. at Main and Port Watson streets, drawing their weapons as the man exited the vehicle.

State police Troop C public information officer Aga Dembinska confirmed a vehicle did not comply when a trooper tried to stop it, and the driver is in custody.

Details were unavailable, but the man's blue convertible had damage on its driver's side front quarter and was facing the wrong way on the one-way Main Street when he was handcuffed.

Several marked and unmarked state police vehicles, and several more city police vehicles were on the scene.
