Mannion wins nomination to face Williams for Congress

John Mannion defeated Sarah Klee Hood on Tuesday to win the Democratic nomination for the 22nd Congressional District, going to to face incumbent Brandon Williams in November’s general election.

Mannion, a state senator representing the 50th District defeated Hood, a Dewitt Town Board member, 16,231 to 10,048 in complete but unofficial results. In Cortland County, Hood defeated Mannion, 538-520.

Mannion faces Williams (R-Sennett) in a district recently reconfigured, but where President Joe Biden beat Trump by 11 points in the 2020 election.

The 22nd District includes the northern part of Cortland County and southeastern Cayuga County, including Cortland, Cortlandville, Homer, Scott, Preble, Truxton, Cuyler, Moravia, Summerhill and Locke.

In the 19th District, which includes all of Tompkins County, Willet, Marathon, Lapeer, Harford, Cincinnatus, Freetown, Solon, Taylor and Virgil, Josh Riley of Endicott was unchallenged for the Democratic nomination to face incumbent Rep. Marc Molinaro of Red Hook.
